This story begins in a small barn near Estacada, Or.
1960 Chevrolet Corvair
After a few weeks of looking for a potential LeMon's Champ car. After looking at cars that were $1000-$2000 just to make them run, and a reasonably nice car that had ZERO, let me explain what I mean by zero oil this car started ran, went into gear and just had broken heater fitting, was fairly straight and the 3.2L Acura V6 had no sign of oil on the dipstick before or after being started checked it several times and nothing not even the very tip of it, no drips of oil on the ground below either. To the owner's dismay we passed on that car when he asked why? We said because it doesn't have any oil in it to which he said "that is an easy fix right?" So I suggested he go spend enough to get at least 1 quart of oil in it before showing it again.
Our Find, the one we had passed over before thinking there is no way to get that 55year old car running condition in time or within Budget but the Price was right. So off to meet Jimmy at the barn he is storing the car in.....
On the way to the Barn the text was sent to another teammate about what we were up to " What do you think of Nader?'' was all that it said and the reply "now we are talking" "a monza or spyder would be even better". I guess he is on board.
Ok so we get to the Barn, a nice clean mostly empty room more like a garage than a barn the car is sitting.
The car is very straight considering it's age and the seats carpet etc. are out basically ready for a cage and seat is what we was going through my mind at the time. We checked it out turned it over, checked the cap and rotor, pulled a plug checked for spark(weak spark) checked the oil dripped some gas down the carbs and it acted like it wanted to start so a little more gas and another shot it fired enough to pop and smoke a little. That was a good sign so we moved on from the engine and just started looking at the rest. We decided for the price it was a lot closer to a racer than anything we had found so far and plans were made to pick it up on the weekend.
